A Conversation with ATP Nutrition Founder & CEO Jarrett Chambers

I wanted to sit down with Jarrett Chambers for a few reasons, but one specific reason catalyzed the conversation: ATP was the #1 biostimulant company sold by ag retailers in Canada.

According to Stratus Ag Research’s biostimulant survey data, the US top 10 is dominated by majors like Mosaic, Syngenta, and Corteva, or by independents leveraging those players for market access with their products.

ATP is the only company in Canada that is not a legacy crop protection or fertilizer manufacturer to be sold by the majority of retailers. Market access is very hard to cultivate and most companies do not earn that kind of retail presence from a standing start in nutrition and biostimulants alone.

The second reason is that he has a unique combination of commercial and technical acumen. Plenty of people in this industry are strong on one side of that line, but far fewer are strong in both technical aspects and commercial dynamics. Jarrett is strong in both, and it shows in how ATP thinks about products, positioning, and partnerships.

Third, he built a profitable company. ATP has been self-funded, and Jarrett shared that the business has been profitable every year after its first.

Those factors made for a valuable conversation that had plenty of learning for me. Jarrett was open about the science, the operating choices, the culture, the mistakes, and what it actually takes to earn trust with retailers and growers over 16 years.

I think others can learn a lot from it too, whether you are building a company, selling into the channel, or trying to make better sense of where specialty nutrition and biostimulants create real value.

Below is the video, 10 key takeaways from the discussion and the transcript.
